20 Years, 18 Counties, One Iowa Energy Story

Por Dan Litchfield, Senior Vice President, Development

This year marks 20 years of Invenergy’s investment in Iowa – supporting the state’s evolving energy needs with a broad portfolio of technologies and a commitment to creating lasting value in communities. Since the first Invenergy-developed project in Iowa was placed into service in 2006—Victory Wind in Crawford and Carroll Counties—our presence has grown alongside the state’s economy.

The Carroll Daily Times reports on Victory Wind in 2006.
Today, our Iowa portfolio represents Invenergy’s approach: we need a mix of sources to keep energy reliable and affordable. We have energy storage, solar, wind, natural gas, and transmission assets in development in the state—all working to meet regional electricity demand growth with American-made power. Invenergy has successfully developed 3.9 gigawatts across 18 Iowa counties, representing enough capacity to power more than 1.1 million Iowa homes. Invenergy-developed projects have supported over 3,700 construction jobs and more than half a billion dollars in wages. Our Invenergy Services business currently operates eight energy facilities in the state, and more than 35 full-time Invenergy employees call Iowa home.
Those numbers are made possible by our most important partners: local communities across Iowa. Through decades of engagement with landowners, neighbors, and local and state officials, we’re able to provide so much more than affordable, reliable energy. Our projects generate tax revenues that fund critical local services such as first responders, jobs that hire locally to create lasting economic stability, and income that helps family farmers sustain their business for generations to come. Invenergy is proud to be a long-term partner and economic driver for dozens of rural Iowa communities, contributing nearly $15 million each year to local organizations and landowners.
The pragmatic attitude of Iowa landowners and local leaders have made the state an energy powerhouse.  Iowa has led the way in price stability, a trend supported by ongoing efforts to modernize grid infrastructure and build a balanced mix of domestic power supply. With demand for power growing in Iowa and across the Midwest, Invenergy is continuing to deliver reliable, affordable energy with a development pipeline that leverages a strategic mix of energy technologies.

We look forward to continuing to invest in Iowa for decades to come.
